Corporate Social Responsibility
In the increasingly conscience-focused marketplaces of the 21st century where the demand for more ethical business processes and practices is increasing, Fortuna Healthcare has developed its own Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy to address the fact that the voluntary actions that it takes as a company – over and above compliance with minimum legal requirements – impacts both its own competitive interests as well as those of society as a whole. Our company recognises that it does not exist in isolation nor is it simply a way of making money; our employees depend on our business as do customers, suppliers and the local community all of whom are affected in some way by what it does.
The company’s CSR strategy revolves around understanding its business impact on the wider world and considering how it can use this impact in a positive way; it means taking a responsible attitude, going beyond the minimum legal requirements and following straightforward principles.
In more specific terms, Fortuna Healthcare is currently involved in a number of initiatives consistent with the principles of Corporate Social Responsibility:
-
Charity of the Year: Our company invests a percentage of its annual profits each year in a charity chosen by its own employees – currently Age UK for Yr 2011-12. Our company has decided to champion Age UK in the firm belief that all members of our society should be able to enjoy good health and support in later life, free from the diseases and disabilities associated with growing older and the consequences that they can bring about, such as social isolation, anxiety, frailty and loss of independence; the research and hard work that Age UK invests in this area is providing answers to everyday problems and there have been significant breakthroughs in recent times in dementia, falls prevention, stroke and incontinence, to name a few.
-
Payroll Giving: Our company is active in promoting tax efficient payroll giving by its employees and has been recognised in this way through the award of Payroll Giving: Gold Award 2010.
-
Work Placements: Our company regularly provides work placements to students and foreign nationals of all ages in an attempt to provide long-term employment opportunities.
-
Positive About Disabled People:
Fortuna Healthcare prides itself on taking a positive approach to employing disabled members of our community and has made a firm commitment to the five main principles around which the accreditation is awarded:
- Interview all job applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
- Ensure that there is a mechanism in place to discuss at any time – but at least once per year – with disabled employees what can be done to ensure that they develop and use their abilties.
- Make every effort when employees become disabled to ensure that they stay in employment.
- Take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work.
- Review the five commitments each year and what can be achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans.
